    We have our second calf! *much rejoicing* Her name is Trisscar, and she was born the 26th of February to Henry. She is doing great an is quite active and likes to run around a lot, but a picture is worth a thousand words so I'll give you some! (Pictures, that is)

The Happenings

    I have three happy news-es. (Four if you count those pictures of Tarquin) First is that we are looking for a new bull. We recently visited a breeder of Herefords and saw some of his adorable bulls. And obviously took photos. We're thinking about two two year-old bulls, '47 and '13, and a yearling which I cannot remember the number of. My personal favorite was '30. He came up and licked my hand. I just about died. (Out of joy, not danger) I apologize about the small number of photos but the camera died. =P The second part is it snowed! Or rather, is snowing! We have drifts that come up to my waist! It's expected to continue to snow until late tomorrow, and I am super happy. 

     And my last bit of news. The first calf of the year is here!! Bluebell! :D Born to Rubie she is about 6 hours old and resting comfy in the barn where we herded her out of the snow.
      That about sums it up! Farewell for now!

       I have good news and bad news. The bad news is we still have no calves. The good news is that it snowed! Farm Boy and I spent quite a bit of time outside sliding in the snow, but forgot to film it. We could have struck it rich with a farmer's version of Wipeout! We did remember to take a few photos of the scenery and cows for you so I shall share them.

*Ahem* (Slightly overdue post)

     As is mentioned in the post title, I am afraid I'm a few days late. Oops. For those of you put off the blog entirely by this, don't worry, there isn't much to post now anyway. There will be, however, in a few weeks when calving starts! (You might want to forget your anger by then so you can see the pictures of... (drum roll) baby calves!!!! (No, the hype was not unnecessary even if I had already mentioned calving season.) Seeing as it's wonderfulness is approaching us, I thought I would talk a little about that.

     Calving season may start early this year due to our bulls getting out. (See this and this) It could start in early February rather than March. Currently all we have to do for the cattle is feed them in the morning and the evening and be certain they have water, but our duties will directly increase to early morning and late night checks to see if anyone has calved. This is mainly for the younger cows -especially first timers- because they are more likely to have problems in birth. For me and my many siblings, it also includes guessing which cows will calve first. =D Ones I noticed this morning were Miss Combobulated and Abigail. I'll tell you if my notions go anywhere.

AHHHHHHHH!

     Why haven't I posted!!!!! Sadly, I believe there is no answer to that question that would justify such a long pause. Thusly, I would like to plead temporary insanity and ask for a sentence of posting once a week for three weeks. All in favor? Keep reading! All against? Close the tab!

     That said, I probably now have no readers, but hey, I'll write anyway.

Moo-ving cows!

     In the *shudder* 7 months since I have posted, lots of things have happened, first of which was the backpacking trip we took with our church. What an amazing adventure (and test of stamina for me)! Also, we re-shingled. That took a LONG time... Then, we moved our cows across the road. Anticlimactic, but fun! :) Then... Christmas!!!!! After Christmas, both Farm Boy and I (Farm Girl) had braces put on. And, last but not least, today we gave the cows some shots, which involved moving Tarquin, our foal, thusly we got some good pictures. =D
     Well. That was part I of III of my sentence. Part 2 coming next week!

Whoopsie!

     Sorry I haven't posted, it seems like everything and nothing are happening at the same time!
     Tarquin is growing up, as are all the li'l calves.
     We had some INCREDIBLE friends over for a week and had a blast!! (Therefore the lack of recent posting)
