We interrupt this calving season with breaking news from the heifer's
pasture. High Rhulain, aged 2, was discovered by Farmer lodged in his
bale feeder at 2:51 this afternoon. Not-so-experts say she had been
there for some time. Farmer immediately called out the EMS (Emergency
Moo-moo Service) who set to work on freeing the cow. A mode of
operation was swiftly decided upon and the leader of emergency services
broke out the cutting torch, their best hope for freeing the forlorn
cow. After cutting through part of the railing around the feeder and the
bolts at the corner, the next question was the best way to release the
cow. Taking a moment to ponder the swiftest way out, the workers bent
down the loosed section of railing. I took very little urging to
convince the youthful cow to exit the feeder, which she did by rolling
over. A quick assessment by the 'medical' team as she trotted by, was
that, apart from a few scrapes, she was just fine. Reporting live from Kansas, this is Farm Girl, signing off.
